The implications for mentoring young male students continues to be a discussion held among educators and researchers seeking to bring about improvements in academics as well as social relationships. The Tallahassee Leadership Development program sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is one such program that works with high school students in Leon County Schools to bridge gaps between our school system and our local communities.
The Leon Works -Leon County's Middle Skill Job Expo will provide high school students with hands-on exposure to diverse and exciting skilled careers while raising awareness among parents, students, job seekers, and educators on local training and career opportunities. The Expo will feature several opportunities including conversations with master tradesmen and artisans, with small business owners and even experts in operating the big machinery our own Leon County Public Works team uses daily.
National Grandparents Day is rooted in the innovative work of two committed and passionate pioneers: Jacob Reingold and Marian McQuade. In 1970, Marian McQuade began a campaign to establish a special day of recognition for grandparents. Through her efforts, she reached out to the civic, business, faith, and political leaders and began a statewide campaign for Grandparents Day. In 1973, the first Grandparents Day in West Virginia was proclaimed by Governor Arch Moore.

The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week, October 23-October 31 each year. Schools across Leon, Gadsden, and Jefferson County will kick-off their drug awareness campaigns as early as Monday, October 20th.
