For well over 20 years the Leon County School District and the Tallahassee Chapter of the NAACP has partnered to recognize two students from every school to be recognized for the MLK Positive Dreamer and Doer Award. The event takes place annually the Friday before the MLK Day Holiday.
Leon County's Teacher of the Year is a mentor, book club leader and a Relay for Life captain. Julie Arasi received the honor while teaching her class at Kate Sullivan Elementary.
Leon County Schools has selected the 5 finalists for this school years Teacher of the Year Award!!!
The finalists were selected by a committee of teachers, administrators, parents and community representatives from among 42 candidates. The committee selected the finalists based on their reviews of ‘blind applications’ (no names or schools on them) from each respective LCS school level Teacher of the Year.
In conjunction with local community partner businesses and classroom teachers, schools across Leon County Schools are spending part of this week distributing gifts to families in need as part of their 2015 Angel Tree Adopt-A-Family Program.
